Boasting four and a half years shooting 50 interviews and 500 hours of footage across two continents, YOU and ME has already inspired audiences in Australia and New Zealand. Now, US audiences have the chance to be uplifted by the incredible on screen and behind the scenes story. YOU and ME heralds the feature filmmaking debut of young American filmmakers Taylor Montemarano and Lorenzo DeCampos, who started shooting the documentary while still at Quinnipiac University. Such was their belief in the power of the story, they self-funded both filming and travel. A chance introduction brought Michael Lawrence, the producer behind Australian box office hit Bra Boys and two time Australian Academy Awards winning feature documentary Fighting Fear, on board. The film had its national cinema release across Australia in April, with sold out Q&A screenings and a cinema expansion due to demand. YOU and ME tells the extraordinary true story of Barney Miller, an emerging pro surfer crippled in a car crash. Told by doctors he would never breathe independently or use his right arm or legs again, Barney defied all medical assessments through grit, hard work, and sheer guts. When Barney meets and falls in love with singer Kate, he wants to spend his life with her. But he won't ask her to marry him until he can kneel down to propose, stand at the altar, and dance at their wedding. The film will screen at The Surf Lodge in Montauk on Friday at sundown. The event starts at 7 PM. Hampton Daze readers can attend by sending an RSVP to youandmersvp@gmail.com. Be sure to include you will be attending the Montauk screening.
